Pousada Rio Claro / Pousada Neco Porto Jofre
Destination: Pantanal / Days: 4 days / 3 nights.
Itinerary:
Day / Night 1
Depart Cuiaba at 08h00 after breakfast at your 4 star hotel, arrival in Pocone, gateway to the Northern Pantanal. We will arrive at approximately 10h00.
The adventure begins with a 40 km (24 mile) photographic safari along the Transpantaneira Park Road and then 3 km (2 miles) along a private road until we reach the Rio Claro Lodge.
Lunch will consist of typical Mato Grosso Cuisine, which will be served around noon. After lunch we will have a chance to rest, or use the pool and wait out the tropical mid-day heat. Later in the afternoon, as the wildlife begins to reemerge, we will go on an ecological trek for about two and a half hours.
After dinner we will go on a spotlighting safari to look for nocturnal animals such as Anteaters, Raccoons, Owls, and Tapirs, and observe Caimans by using the spotlight to illuminate their eyes.
Day / Night 2
The activities today will include vehicle safari before sunrise. After breakfast we will continue with a canoe trip where we can see Otters, Monkeys, numerous bird species, Capybara, Iguanas Anacondas and Caiman. The next activity will be horseback riding to see the area of the ranch surrounding the lodge other wildlife and plants.
After lunch we will continue our journey with a110 km (65 mile) photographic safari to Porto Jofre at the end of the Transpantaneira Highway.
We will end our day with dinner at our lodge, Neco´s Lodge in Porto Jofre at 19h30.
Day / Night 3
Our day will begin with hardy breakfast before departing for the river for approximately four hours in a boat equipped with a radio to help locate the famous Jaguar. It is also possible to see monkeys, iguanas, anacondas, caiman, avifauna, otters, Capybaras, Buffalos as well as the elusive Jaguar, the largest feline of the Americas.
We will return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch at 13h00, we will go piranha fishing in the Porto and embark once again in the boat at 14h00 in search of the Jaguar, birds and other wildlife along the riverbanks, returning at sunset. After dinner, we will go on a spotlighting safari looking for nocturnal wildlife including Giant River Otters, Capybaras, Tapirs, owls, and more. Afterwards, we will return to the lodge.
Day 4
After breakfast we will depart on a photographic safari back to Arancua Lodge or Pocone where we will have another typical “Pantaneiro” lunch. Afterwards, we will return to Cuiaba at approximately 15h00.
